Filippo Ganna wird diese Woche den Stundenrekord auf einem „weltweit ersten“, vollständig 3D-gedruckten Pinarello Bolide F HR 3D-Bahnrad versuchen. Pinarello nannte dieses neue Bolide F 3D-Bahnrad das „erste und schnellste Hochleistungs-3D-gedruckte Fahrrad, das jemals gebaut wurde“ und arbeitete mit INEOS Grenadier und dem zweifachen TT-Weltmeister Filippo Ganna zusammen, um die raffinierteste aerodynamische Plattform für seinen Stundenrekordversuch diese Woche zu entwickeln.

Pinarello beschreibt die Anforderungen bei der Entwicklung von Gannas Hour Record-Projektrad als „höher als üblich“. Der Bolide F HR 3D brauchte eine absolut perfekte Passform, die auf den Fahrer zugeschnitten war und sich an Filippos einzigartige Anatomie anpasste, um sowohl seinen Komfort als auch die gesamte Aero-Leistung zu maximieren. Komfort wird oft unterschätzt, aber wenn es um einen von Tissot gezeiteten UCI-Stundenrekord geht, ist er absolut entscheidend, weil er es dem Athleten ermöglicht, länger schneller zu laufen. Auch bei Bahnrädern wird die Bedeutung der Steifigkeit oft unterschätzt, aber jede Biegung unter Krafteinwirkung führt dazu, dass die Räder schrubben und der Sportler jedes Mal, wenn er in die Pedale tritt, entscheidende Zentimeter verliert.“

Pinarellos neues 3D-Bahnrad Bolide F HR ist insofern sicherlich einzigartig, als es die 3D-Drucktechnologie auf ein neues Niveau bringt, aber es ist nicht ganz das erste Bahnrad, das wir mit diesem 3D-gedruckten Scandium gesehen haben. Der Peregrine Falcon-Prototyp von TRed schaffte letztes Jahr diesen „Ersten“ in einem ähnlichen Versuch, Aerodynamik, rennstreckentaugliche Steifigkeit und grenzenloses Anpassungspotenzial zu vereinen.

Der 3D-Druck gab den Pinarello-Designern ein beispielloses Maß an Designkontrolle und Anpassungsmöglichkeiten im Vergleich zur modernen Carbon-Fahrradherstellung oder zum konventionelleren Metallfahrradbau. Sie konnten eine nahtlose aerodynamische Außenhaut schaffen und gleichzeitig stufenlos anpassbare interne Strukturverstärkungen integrieren, um die Steifigkeit genau dort zu erhöhen, wo das Fahrrad sie benötigte.

Die mit Metron AE in Großbritannien entwickelten Rohre des Pinarello Bolide F 3D werden aus einer hochfesten Scandium-Aluminium-Magnesium-Legierung namens Scalmalloy 3D-gedruckt, die in der Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie speziell für die additive Fertigung entwickelt wurde. Der auf einem Großformatdrucker erstellte Fahrradrahmen musste noch in fünf Einzelteilen gedruckt werden, die dann nach einigen Reinigungsarbeiten nach dem Druck mit Epoxidharz zusammengeklebt wurden.

Interessanterweise sind Elemente der Gabelschaft- und Lenkerverlängerungen tatsächlich aus Titan 3D-gedruckt, um höheren Belastungen standzuhalten, als das Scalmalloy bewältigen könnte.

Um sicherzustellen, dass das Custom-Bike von Filippo Ganna stark und sicher genug war, fertigte Pinarello ein exaktes Duplikat davon an, um es von EFBE in Deutschland unabhängig testen zu lassen. Der Bolide F 3D-Rahmen, die Gabel und die Sattelstütze haben alle Ermüdungs-, Aufprall- und Torsionstests gemäß ISO 4210 bestanden – eine Premiere für ein maßgeschneidertes UCI-Stundenrekordversuchsrad.

Das gerippte Pinarello-Sitzrohr wurde auf der Grundlage der Bewegungsforschung der Buckelwale der University of Adelaide entwickelt und soll dabei helfen, die Luft am Fahrrad zu halten, während sie an dem turbulenten Bereich zwischen den auf und ab gehenden Beinen des Fahrers und dem sich nach vorne drehenden Hinterrad vorbeiströmt.

Weitere wichtige technische Änderungen, nach denen die alte UCI-3:1-Regel abgeschafft wurde, beschränken sich auf die Reduzierung der Frontfläche. Dieses neue Fahrrad verwendet ein schmaleres 54-mm-Tretlager (gegenüber dem 68-mm-Standard) und einen besonders schmalen Vorderradnabenabstand von 69 mm (vorher 100 mm) und einen Hinterradabstand von 89 mm (gegenüber dem 120-mm-Standard).

Darüber hinaus konnte Pinarello durch den 3D-Druck wieder näher an die tieferen aerodynamischen Sweetspot-Verhältnisse von 6:1 bis 8:1 für Tragflächenprofile dieses Bolide F 3D-Bahnrads herankommen.

Während Hope mit ihrem ultimativen HB.T ​​x Lotus-Bahnrad mit 3D-gedruckten, durch Carbonrohre verbundenen Stollen extrem weit ging, ebenso wie Factor, der Ti für seinen Hanzo TT-Prototyp-Stundenrekordrad ebenfalls 3D-gedruckt hat, gingen andere wie das Argon 18 ultraschmal mit einer 40-mm-Gabel an ihren Electron Pro-Bahnrädern. Laut Pinarello sind die Daten zum reduzierten Luftwiderstand von breiten gegenüber schmalen Streben nicht ganz so eindeutig, wenn man den Fahrer mit einbezieht, weshalb man bei schmalen Streben blieb, was insgesamt zu stabileren Aero-Verbesserungen führte.

Genau wie das Sitzrohr und die Streben, die schneller MIT dem Fahrer sein müssen, hat Pinarello einen neuen unkonventionellen Lenker entwickelt, der allein den Luftwiderstand tatsächlich erhöhte, aber zusammen mit Filippo Ganna den Gesamtwiderstand reduzierte. Die dreiteilige Basisstange und die geschwungenen, anschraubbaren Verlängerungen bestanden aus 3D-gedrucktem 6Al-4V-Titan.

Dieser neue 3D-gedruckte Pinarello Bolide F HR 3D hat sich bereits als schneller erwiesen, als der INEOS-Leistungsingenieur Dan Bigham im August mit dem unbeschrifteten Fahrrad, an dessen Entwicklung er beteiligt war, den aktuellen UCI-Stundenweltrekord von 55,548 km aufstellte – und mit einem nächsten Gen Muc-Off Ludicours AF-Kette.
